Self love got marketed to women as candles and bubble baths. Those are lovely. They are also not the work. Real self love is quieter, less photogenic, and far more life changing.
It looks like keeping small promises
You said you would go to bed at ten. You said you would call the therapist. You said you would stop replying to the man who only appears at midnight. Every kept promise teaches your nervous system that you are someone who can be trusted.
It looks like telling the truth sooner
Not the cruel truth, the clear one. I am hurt. I need more than this. That does not work for me. Honesty spoken early prevents the resentment that arrives late.
It looks like letting yourself be new at things
Choosing healthy love is a skill, and you are allowed to be a beginner. You will get boundaries wrong, over explain, and soften when you meant to stand firm. Repair, and keep going.
It looks like faith in your own worth
Your worth was never up for a vote. It was not granted by the man who stayed or removed by the one who left. Living from that truth is the whole practice, and it is available to you today.
